Fun Fact
Jin loves Super Mario Bros. and has a huge collection of figurines. He also collects Polaroids.
Eat, Jin, Eat!
Jin’s “Eat Jin” videos are the stuff of legend. Jin loves eating so much that he says no matter how tired he is, there are two words that will always get him going: “Let’s eat!” Jin loves trying out new recipes, using his bandmates as guinea pigs. If he wasn’t in BTS, he says he’d be a cooking show host. Ya think?
Suga
Suga may be sweet, but he actually got his name because of his looks—specifically, his pale complexion and, according to Big Hit impresario Bang Si-hyuk, his sweet smile. The man who jokingly (or not-so-jokingly?) calls himself a genius is one of its three rappers, and its unanimous “swag master.” (He’s definitely got swag—and a sense of humor. When asked what his go-to pickup line was, he quipped, “Do you know BTS?” Aces!)
“Suga. Genius.” Like Jin’s handsomeness, it’s a self-dubbed title that also happens to be true. He began his musical journey as a classical musician before turning his eye to a career in K-pop. But as he told Elle magazine in 2017, he has always been a writer. “I have [been] writing rhymes and lyrics, a habit since I was a kid. They are all the little minor feelings and thoughts that go through my mind. I shuffle them a year or so later, and they sometimes become great lyrics for songs.” That practice seems to have paid off, as Suga has created some of the best and most brutally honest verses in all of BTS’s catalog.
He has written frankly in his lyrics about his struggles with depression and also on his very personal mixtape Min Yoongi. (“I’ve denied my nature many times / My address is idol and I won’t deny / The anguish that dug into my mind countless times,” he writes on his “The Last.”) His transparency is something that has resonated deeply with fans, many of whom credit the band with helping them through difficult times. The ARMY considers itself a support group unto itself, and the boys of BTS, especially Suga and RM, have helped bring some difficult issues—especially those people are less likely to verbalize—to the forefront.
Maybe it’s his ice-cold stare, his rapper’s growl, his lyrical prowess, his songwriting and producing prowess, or the smile that could melt glaciers that makes him his fans’ bias. Whatever the reason, he’s an integral member of the band, and one who’s helped separate BTS from the pack of idol groups.
